When I draw or paint I try to respond in an immediate way to keep a subject fresh.


I want interesting marks, that suggest movement and capture a mood. I do not want a photographic representation.


I work mostly with water based mediums, enjoying the translucency.


My subject matter is based on the natural world: sea and coastline, flowers and foliage, animals and birds, particularly wading birds where there’s humour to be had.


I also enjoy the discipline of portrait and life drawing which trains the eye to see shapes within a shape and to observe how the shapes are manipulated by movement.
